I was invited to the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival press event (which included a Sip and Savor Pass and access to media events) and all opinions are my own.

Last year was the first time I ever attended the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival at Disneyland Resort. I happened to be there for the AWEsome Retreat, which is a theme park conference for bloggers.

I happened to win a Sip and Savor Pass at the conference and I went to town sampling as many small plates, desserts, and drinks as I could. They practically had to roll me onto the airplane.

This year, I was invited to the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival press event as an AWEsome Mastermind attendee. This was my first Disney press event and I was very excited for this opportunity to have a first look at what was new for this fun Disneyland event.

So, let’s dig into everything happening at the 2020 Disneyland Food & Wine Festival taking place at Disney California Adventure.

2020 Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival guide featured by top US Disney blogger, Marcie and the Mouse.

What is the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival at Disneyland?

Each Spring, Disney California Adventure offers a Food & Wine Festival, which is similar to the Food & Wine Festival at Epcot at Walt Disney World. But, it all focuses on California cuisine with a few touches of Asian and Mexican inspirations.

Basically, there are special booths that pop up in a small section of Disney California Adventure. Each booth offers a handful of small bites, desserts, and drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic.)

There’s also cooking demonstrations, seminars, live music, entertainment, and more.

When is the 2020 Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival?

This year, the festival runs February 28 to April 21, 2020.

How Does the Sip and Savor Pass Work?

The Sip and Savor Pass is a large plastic card with eight little punch out tickets. Each ticket is good for one item (food or non-alcoholic drink) at the festival. Yes, you do need to purchase alcoholic drinks separately.

You can purchase a Sip and Savor Pass right as you enter Disney California Adventure for $56, including tax. So, with 8 tasting tickets, each ticket “costs” $7, but you can use them to purchase items for any amount.

When you approach a Food & Wine Festival booth, simply order any item and hand them one of the tasting tickets from your Sip and Savor Pass as payment.2020 Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival guide featured by top US Disney blogger, Marcie and the Mouse.

In between sampling the array of delicious nibbles, head over to Hollywood Land. There’s a Backlot Stage (near the Monsters Inc. ride) where celebrity chefs (including my favorite Top Chef Richard Blais) will be providing chef demonstrations and seminars.

For Kids & Families

I love the Disney added in some kid-friendly activities so the whole family can experience the Food & Wine Festival at Disney California Adventure.

Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Chef Daniella Malfitano is hosting a Family Time culinary experience.

Hear the YouTube culinary star talk about turning each delicious minute into an opportunity to connect with loved ones. In this 30-minute show, she give tips on how busy families can make the most of mealtime from dinner prep to dessert!2020 Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival guide featured by top US Disney blogger, Marcie and the Mouse.

When I went, she brought a mom and son up on stage and taught them how to make fish sticks from scratch, as well as a slaw and homemade tartar sauce.

Note: the Family Time with Chef Daniella Malfitano event is first come first served.

And kids ages 3-11 years old can join Chef Goofy for a Junior Chef experience where they get to follow a recipe that ends with a magical (and tasty!) surprise.2020 Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival guide featured by top US Disney blogger, Marcie and the Mouse.

When I was there, Chef Goofy helped kids make oatmeal raisin cookies and all the kids seemed really excited to participate.

Chef Goofy is available every day, which is more than last year.

And there are crafts and live entertainment throughout the festival.

What’s New for the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival 2020?

Each year, the festival has a theme. For 2020, Disney chefs are sharing their own personal stories through their food and beverage offerings. It’s all about the magic of Disney storytelling and it pops up in different ways throughout the festival.

But don’t worry, popular booths Avocado Time, Cluck-A-Doodle-Moo and Nuts About Cheese are back for 2020!

Select Downtown Disney District locations also offers festival-inspired food and beverage options this year.

And something that’s not exactly new, but super special for the Food & Wine Festival is that Soarin’ Over California is back! Yes, throughout the Festival, you’ll be able to take a ride on this classic Disney California Adventure attraction once again!

Plus, Annual Passholders can enjoy an extra hour of ride time at Soarin’ Over California on March 11, 18 and 25, 2020 after the park closes!

Top 5 Best Tips for the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival

1. Come Hungry

I know this may sound obvious, but there are so many yummy foods to try. Don’t eat breakfast before you arrive. There are plenty of items you’ll want to taste and it’s best to arrive with an empty stomach.

2. Go with Other People

One of the biggest mistakes I made last year was doing many of the booths on my own. That meant I could only pick one item at a time and I didn’t get to try as many items as I wanted.

If you go with other people, each of you can order something and (if you share) you’re able to taste a lot of different dishes.

3. Pick up a Tasting Passport

It can be a bit overwhelming to see all the booths when you arrive at the Festival. Grab a Tasting Passport when you enter and take a few moments to look at all the options.

Each kiosk has menus inspired by California-grown ingredients like avocados, berries, citrus, peppers, and artisanal cheese.

If you don’t want to try things that are too close in flavor (like 3 different avocado dishes) this is a great way to see which one sounds the best. It will also save your legs from trekking all over to read menus.

4. Pay Attention to Prices

Not all the menu items have the same price. If you really want to maximize your Sip and Savor Pass, choose the items with the highest prices to pay with your Pass. Pay cash for the cheaper items.

5. Share a Sip and Savor Pass

If you are limited on time at Disney California Adventure, share a Sip and Savor Pass with friends. That way you can still try a few items without wasting money.

Or, just pay cash.2020 Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival guide featured by top US Disney blogger, Marcie and the Mouse

Yes, but it kind of depends on your kids.
